Sea-Rich Sino-British College
Hopefully this page will give you a flavour of my working environment.
Sea-Rich is a private school, specialising in teaching English to students who hope to go to college in the 'West'. The college is part-owned and managed by Canadian chap, Raymond Lamont. I.T.Carlow has an arrangement with Sea Rich. Chinese students can study computing for a year at Sea-Rich and then come to Carlow and enter into 2nd year of one of our Computing degree programmes. The students will finish their degree in Carlow. My job here is to do most of the computing teaching and act as course director.
The main entrance to the college & residential complex is over a private bridge & lake. (The college is the building on the left of picture)
The name 'Sea Rich' comes from the parent organisation, which is a huge shipping company, Sea Rich also has significant property interests. The college itself is situated in a residential complex (also owned by Sea Rich), on a small hill, less than1km south of Dalian city centre.
The college building is 5 floors (no lift) with about 15 teaching rooms. The I.T.Carlow programme is assigned a dedicated IT lab and a classroom. There are about 15 teachers, mostly EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teachers.
One of two staff rooms
The general schedule here consists of three 50 minute classes in the morning (with a formal ten minute break between classes). An hour for lunch at 12 o'clock and four 50 minute classes in the afternoon, finishing at 5.00pm. The college has an automatic bell to signal the beginning and end of classes. There are no 'tea-breaks' as we would know them.
Above, is our I. T. Lab, with my class. You will be seeing some of these students around Carlow next year.
Our class room, wonderfully light and airy. We only need 9 chairs, because we have only nine students this year.
